Ms. Shannon graduated from The George Washington University in 1996 with a Masters of Forensic Science and a concentration in forensic toxicology. From 1996 to 2012 Ms. Shannon worked for the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES), and starting in 2004, she served as the Deputy Chief of Laboratory Operations within the Division of Forensic Toxicology, AFMES. In her capacity at the AFMES, Ms. Shannon supervised the forensic toxicology testing for the Medical Examiner’s office, Department of Defense accident investigators, flight surgeons worldwide, CID/NCIS/AFOSI criminal investigations, Armed Forces drug testing quality assurance, DoD-related toxicology research studies and selected cases of national interest. At the AFMES, Ms. Shannon oversaw quick turnaround times in the review of batch data, case review and administrative review, and also ensured the laboratory’s compliance, participation and accreditation by approved outside agencies.
